Pollution & noise free tricycles in Taguig
Posted on April 14th, 2009
Health-friendly transport is now available in Taguig City with the recent introduction of emission and noise free tricycles.
The city acquired 178 units of battery-operated fiberglass tricycles, including 20 in The Fort, with each capable of transporting four to eight passengers per load.
Introduced in the city last December, Philippine made fiberglass-bodied E-3s resemble huge golf carts powered by five 12V batteries, which need six to 10 hours of charging for a range of 100 to 120 kilometers at speeds of 30 to 45 kilometers per hour.
E-SaVe Transport Systems, Inc. CEO Sean Gerard Villoria, said the e-vehicles are eco-friendly because it has no gas emissions, noise free, and health-friendly. The alternative transportation is also efficient, easy to use, more stable and safer for road travel.
“With only eight hours of charging, the e-tricycle can run up to 120 kms. costing only P38. This way, income of operators can increase by up to 200 percent and operation can be decreased by as much as 70 percent,” Villoria said.
Villoria says the design and noiseless features of the E-3 make it more suitable in business districts, private subdivisions, resorts and even military camps.
The Air Force has been using E-3s to ferry personnel in its airbases in Villamor, Mactan in Cebu, and Clark in Pampanga. Other local government units such as Makati, Pasay, Bacolod and Boracay have also expressed interest in procuring the battery-powered trikes, according to Villoria.
A Taguig official said the e-vehicles will lessen their dependency on diesel and gasoline, and will also give more benefits to residents. “With the e-vehicles, consumption of electricity will only be P20 as against P200 of gasoline for the tricycles.”
